It was Saturday night. We came at 23.45 to church. It was drizzling all around Cyprus that night.. the weather changed, so this week is a bit cooler (around 20C) and I have sore throat.
It was the last minutes before all lights were turned off, before the culmination as everybody was waiting for the miracle, for the light to come to the world. And then suddenly it becomes light candle by candle, people pass the flame of the candle to candle. Its the experience of fellowship and sharing the gift from God between all people of church. For some people the flame seems so precious. People take it home and keep it for more burning at home. After short service of Light, Everybody greets each other with "Christ is risen" and almost all people leave church. The fun part is over, but not for everybody. 3hour long service has started. This service is very important for those who have fasted for 50days, who were waiting for this night, who dedicated something of their life to Resurrection of Jesus. In the end there is communion and people leave to have a meal with eggs, egg - lemon soup, chicken, flaunas or any other food.. Happy time!
This quote i read in one of the blogs and the description is pretty exact:
"I can't really describe the fullness of what happens during Orthodox Holy Week. Each service takes at least an hour and a half, and many of them are 2-3 hours long. It's exhausting. It almost kills us, but it is glorious!"
Went to bed at 6am. Early morning, but great feeling of accomplishment. I did IT and i know how it is to do IT!
Please note that i fasted on certain food items for the first time in my life. There were moments when I have to admit it loud to other people, which seemed weird , but it was good to know that I can admit that am doing something not just for fun, but something greater to expect. Great exercise for discipline.

The celebration of Christ's resurrection is being celebrated now in Cyprus. I could say that i have never felt Easter miracle and the power of God as I have experienced this time in Greek Orthodox church.
